Google Click Fraud Is It Real? |

Google Click Fraud Is It Real? I know that click fraud on Google AdWords has been in the news lately, but I have to say, I have never seen it happen with any of my client accounts. This doesn't mean that it may not happen to some people, but I have never seen it and I have set up and managed Google AdWords accounts for many advertisers in many fields of business. You should still take a savvy approach to AdWords and protect yourself from click fraud however. By this I mean specifically, do not pay the same amount per click in the content network as you would normally in the search network. We usually set our click cost in content to less than one third of what we pay in the search network. Additionally if your campaign is targeted locally do not even enable the content network. Google as well as Yahoo have very sophisticated methods that they use to track and identify click fraud. For the typical advertiser our recommendation is simple don't be overly worried about this. Google is a big company and headlines sell magazines and newspapers. If you do see very high and strange click activity in your Google AdWords account, pause your account, and get with Google AdWords online or phone help right away, but remember in all the accounts that we have managed, we have never seen click fraud happen, not even once! |

Promises of Search Engine Placement |

You've
got to be such a careful consumer now-a-days. I just researched situation that sounded just too good to be true. Before you
spend money on guaranteed search engine and specifically I mean
guaranteed Yahoo placement, check out what you think you are really
getting. This is my second run in with this type of situation.
A client was told by a firm that they had been
sold by Yahoo one of the top blue boxes above organic results on a
specific search term and that if the client paid so much to them
directly, he would be assured of that spot on Yahoo and numerous other
search engines. He signed up on the spot. He then discussed this with me, knowing I am involved with web design and advertising with Yahoo. I called the company, and then I called Yahoo. Yahoo does
not sell to companies any of the blue boxes. These spots are for the
top one, two, and sometimes three bidders in the Yahoo! Sponsored
Search Marketing program. They are not up for grabs at a flat monthly
fee to Yahoo or to other firms. That would be way unfair if it was so,
but Yahoo customer service confirmed that this is not the case. Then
when I asked the company exactly what search engines this top spot
would appear on, I was told Alta Vista, All The Web, CNN, and others. I
immediately looked and returned the comment that Alta Vista and All The
Web are not real search engines, they were bought by Yahoo and display
Yahoo results exactly as Yahoo does. CNN is part of the Yahoo content
network.
The bottom line is that he did not need this
service at a flat monthly fee paid to a third party. The click traffic
that they quoted could not even be confirmed on Wordtracker. They had
stated that the phrases he would buy would generate 1000 clicks a
month. Wordtracker and even Overture's keyword tool said 0 searches in
a 24 hour period, Wordtracker did not even show the phrase being
searched in a 90 period, and Overture stated that it would return about
6 clicks a month.
He then was able to bid $.46 per click
to get the top blue box spot using his own Yahoo! Sponsored Search ad
account and did not have to pay a dime to the other company or their
exorbitant account set up fee.
The bottom line is there are many
schisters out there waiting to help part you from your money. Be
careful, research what they say with third party tools, and ask lots of
questions.

This will be the first in a series of articles discussing SEO and SEM. I just ran accross and started investigating the potential of Google Analytics, and already see many advantages in participating in this program. It's also totally free, so why not see what enhancement it will bring. This is great news for anyone using CMS becau se often there arn't statistical software solutions available which provide meaningful results. I've evaluated several alternatives out there, and feel they just don't offer the depth of Urchin - the platform and predecessor-brand that runs Google Analytics . In fact, pretty much any stats s/w I've ever heard about - whether it integrates or not, isn't as good as urchin/Google Analytics. Here are some positive features of Google Analytics: - Its externally hosted by Google. This means a greater possibility of not going down when your site does, and the data will be stored on Google servers, which mean your site will be a bit faster to load.
- You can manage multiple sites' stats in a single admin panel through 'profiles' - 10 are allowed per account.
- The 'content summary' will actually list hot content/'pages' on your site to help you guide content development. It actually lists clickable URLs - so if you have SEF URLs on your site, you can make direct sense of these stats,
- You can do a site overlay and have clickthroughs displayed at clickable areas of the screen on top of a screenshot of your site!
