Poll and SEF working together PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 04 November 2006

I just spent a whole day + working on trying to get the Joomla core poll component to work with search engine friendly software.  I really don't know if this is still an issue with openSEF, having polls not work properly; however,  I have yet to find a solution for the Joomla core Poll issue at the openSEF forum or at the Joomla forum.

I ended up fooling around with the core poll component so much, I deleted the component and module completely, complete un-install, and could not get it back on my site  ...  I just stopped trying.

Well, I found another poll program, eXit-Poll (http://www.phpprojects.net/).  It includes a component, module, and mombat.  I installed and tried to imbed the module within the content area of my document, and it would not register the vote properly, but it looked OK.  I then imbeded the mombat, and it works really well.  You can check it out at jWebSolution.com.  It is just a plain looking poll, similar to the core component, but can be mocked up in countless ways using the eXit-Poll CSS and admin area for adding images and design features.

Anyone still having this problem should check out eXit-Poll.  It can be structured just like the core component, but also has much more flexibility and capability.

On a side note, I could not get pollXT to work properly.  It came up with an assortment of errors.

Mozilla Web Browser PDF Print E-mail

firefox-logo3

There are many web browsers out there to choose from, and I am sure with IE release of 7.0 the competition will increase dramatically with Microsoft attempting to gain even greater market share of the browser community.  I personally use Mozilla products for my primary browser usage, and would recommend anyone to download Firefox .  It has tremendous flexibility.  My other browser recommendation would again be a Mozilla product, Seamonkey .

This web site and jWebSolution  were both designed and are fully functional with either browser, Mozilla or IE; however, there are several enhancements which are only visible when using Mozilla products.  For instance, at jWebSolution I have designed some drop-down (pop-out) menu's which when viewed in Mozilla, the opacity is apparent, and you can slightly see through them ... the background/content is visible.  IE products show a solid drop-down, no opacity.  I am working to fine tune this feature, so opacity is apparent with IE, but have yet to obtain this characteristic with 100% efficiency.

I also have recommended Seamonkey as a viable browser and have presented a short write-up previously concerning this alternative.  It includes integrated html editor and e-mail solution which truly makes it an All-in-One browser.

Microsoft hopes 7 is lucky number for IE PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 19 October 2006

Finally, the wait is over, after some 18 months after Bill Gates pledged to revamp Internet Explorer, Microsoft is ready with the final version of Internet Explorer 7. After many months of beta testing this new browser, it is now available for download from Microsoft's Web site.

On the feature side, Microsoft is playing catch-up in many areas. It has added support for Web standards, RSS Web feeds and tabbed browsing. The new browser also offers protection against phishing sites--malicious Web sites designed to trick users into handing over their personal information.

Microsoft is encouraging even Firefox users to install the IE update, promising them that it won't make IE the default browser--or even ask them if they want to switch. "There are advantages to having it there, even if you are not a daily user," said Gary Schare, Microsoft's director of IE product management.

Those who have been beta testing IE7 will begin receiving the final version via automatic updates this week. Microsoft plans to push down IE7 via automatic update to IE6 users starting next month, though they will get to decide whether they want to install it.

OzIQ 32" All In One PC with HD TV Tuner

all_in_one

Recently  ran accross this article on an all-in-one PC and found it quite interesting and thought I would pass it on here.

While it's a nice space saver to have your monitor and PC components all tied together in a nice, neat package, you have a bit of a dilemma when it comes time to upgrade or swap out your package completely and what do you do if your monitor craps out altogether?

Ultimately, it comes down to ensuring the all-in-one package you purchase is a bit future proof from a specs perspective and that you have a good warranty. an Australian company by the name of OzIQ has you covered in thae spec department with the soon to be released OZ-632i7.

Coming in at a generous 32" of screen space the "stylish, sophisticated, and compact" OZ-632i7 is the latest in the companies line of all-in-one PCs that now range from 15" to 32".

The PC sports an Intel T2500 2.0 GHz Core Duo PC, a sizeable 400 GB hard drive, 1 Gig of Ram, DVD-RW dual layer RAM drive, a high definition digital TV tuner, and runs Windows XP Pro or Media Center.

The OZ-632i7 will cost $3200 US dollars with the Windows Media Center Edition being a bit more expensive. No details on release stateside.

Mozilla - Seamonkey PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 01 September 2006

seamonkey I've used Micorsoft IE and Mozilla Firefox, but recently came accross Mozilla SeaMonkey, which has truely become an All-In-One Browser experience.  It includes Web-browser, advanced e-mail and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editing made simple -- all your Internet needs in one application.  I've found each of its features well designed and useful features in a browser.

"The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to deliver production-quality releases of code derived from the application formerly known as "Mozilla Application Suite". Whereas the main focus of the Mozilla Foundation is on Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird, our group of dedicated volunteers works to ensure that you can have "everything but the kitchen sink" — and have it stable enough for corporate use".

Newsflash
jWebSolution.com the parent site to obeoneweb has recently obtained a face lift.  These updates included creation of a new template, adding drop-down menus, implementing a photo gallery, and many more.  I'll also be adding obeoneweb template at jWebSolution for purchase.
